Why let procrastination rain on your parade?

Fragmentation due to disorganization can cause you to put off projects

I'll-get-to-it-tomorrow syndrome too often sabotages our goal accomplishment efforts. The next time you find yourself in avoidance behavior like picking lint off your carpet instead of jumping into your next challenging project, pause and ask yourself: What am I avoiding?

Is it a project that is not aligned with my talents or belief around my ability to be successful at the project? Or is it that I simply have absolutely no interest in doing the project, yet feel I have no way out?

Dismantle the resistance around a positive forward action step and peel that procrastination onion back; give yourself permission to see the situation for what it is and then remember you have the ability to override mind blocks. Eckhart Tolle reminds us, "There are no problems, simply situations that require our attention for solution."

Procrastination can keep you from implementing a high-powered project simply because you fear it won't be good enough or you simply don't want to put in the effort needed to get'er done.

"I don't want to do this" moments in life can be flipped into a positive space by simply adding an element of fun. Simply pairing the task at hand with something that boosts your mood can lighten up the dreaded task at hand:

  • Music is always a great mood booster in the background.
  • For my birthday, my husband got me a ball chair which has added a fun element to my hours spent on the computer.
  • Changing your location to a bright spot that lifts your spirit is another way to jump start forward momentum.

The next time you feel like resisting taking a step forward towards completing your project, ask yourself, "What is one small action step I will take in the direction of moving this project forward?"

Fragmentation due to disorganization leads to procrastination. When you take a step in the direction of organization around a project, even if it is a small corner of organization, you will find that you create simplicity. Simplicity leads to clarity of focus, and clarity of focus leads to action based living.

Here is some popular head trash that is often associated with procrastination: In order to accept myself, I need to be perfect; I am resisting taking a step towards completing this project for fear of possible rejection, by myself or those around me. Perfectionism and procrastination often walk hand-in-hand.

Reflect on this statement: I am willing to accept myself and honor my unique creativity with or without accomplishing this project. You will find you often release new energy to move forward when you remember you are okay just as you are.

"What would you dare to do if you knew you could not fail?" This unknown author understood a key element that needs to be in place for advancement to take place. The ability to create can only take place in the presence of freedom.
