CU Anschutz Medical Campus partners with Zipcar

New program provides a sustainable, cost-effective alternative to car ownership

ColoradoBiz Staff //September 14, 2016//

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Anschutz) has launched a new partnership with Zipcar, the world’s leading car sharing network, to offer a Zipcar car sharing program on campus. The convenient transportation option is now available at an affordable rate 24 hours a day, seven days a week for students, faculty and staff ages 18 and older, as well as members of the local community over the age of 21.

CU Anschutz will initially offer six vehicles, including a Ford Focus named “Macchiato” and a Volkswagen Golf named “Bambino.” There will also be one car, a Honda Fit named “Danube,” with Zipcar’s new, flexible features, which allow members to pick up the car in one location and drop it off in another. The Zipcars will have designated parking spots located in the East Overflow and Monte Vista lots for convenient pick-up and return.

This year, CU Anschutz members can join for $15, with rates for Zipcar vehicles on campus starting as low as $7.50 per hour and $69 per day. After the first year, members will pay an annual membership fee of $25. Gas, insurance, and up to 180 miles of driving per day are included in Zipcar rates, and cars can be reserved for as little as an hour or for multiple days. CU Anschutz students, faculty and staff can join Zipcar in minutes on the Zipcar mobile app or at www.zipcar.com/cuanschutz.

“Zipcar will bring tremendous potential and benefits to CU Anschutz from a number of standpoints. Its use will help reduce traffic congestion on campus, and parking demand,” said Neil Krauss, director of outreach and initiatives for the chancellor’s office at CU Anschutz. “It also will help our community save money on the use of our cars.  And, if we get the usage that other cities have seen, this will also help reduce our carbon footprint.  We’re looking forward to having Zipcar join our community.”

Members with iPhones and Android devices may download the Zipcar mobile app to make reservations, lock and unlock the vehicles and honk the horn to help locate the vehicle. Reservations can also be made over the phone or on Zipcar’s website.

“The Zipcar program on campus gives students, faculty and staff the freedom of using a car without the hassle of owning one,” said Katelyn Bushey, Zipcar director of university sales. “We’re happy to partner with CU Anschutz to give their community a transportation option to fit their needs and their wallet.”

Zipcar has established relationships with more than 500 universities across North America. For more information and to become a member of Zipcar at CU Anschutz, please visit www.zipcar.com/cuanschutz.  Additional information and promotions can also be found by following @Zipcar on Twitter.
