Congrats to our Top Company 2016 winner: Weifield Group

This year’s Top Company winners and finalists represent large and small, old and new, high-tech and high-touch businesses and organizations in 11 industry categories. Like Colorado itself, these enterprises have undergone changes, endured tumultuous economic times, and overcome various hurdles to achieve distinction in their respective fields.

To be eligible for Top Company consideration, companies must be based in Colorado or have a significant presence in the state. Deloitte, a longtime program sponsor, selects up to three finalists per industry category from applications submitted online at cobizmag.com. A panel made up of ColoradoBiz magazine’s editorial board and representatives from the business community then selects the winners based on financial performance or other relevant metric, achievement in one or more operational aspect of their business, and community involvement.

Weifield Group Contracting offers cutting-edge electrical construction, combining professional expertise with leading technology. The Denver-based company has four main divisions: service and maintenance, special projects, construction, industrial/water and wastewater.

Weifield Group Contracting has more than 250 employees, and has a goal of adding another 500 in the next three to five years. Weifield Group works with two Denver rehab and therapeutic communities, Stout Street Foundation program and Peer One. Graduates of the programs who have demonstrated a willingness to learn can receive training and become electricians at Weifield via its apprenticeship program. The company employs 40 electricians from these programs.

Training is so important that it is among the employee perks, in the form of a paid four-year apprenticeship program, paid LEED certification, OSHA training, CPR/First Aid certification, and field safety training. The company also trains leaders, and all journeymen (mid-level electricians) receive continuing-education courses at Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) and local community colleges. To maintain its competitive edge, Weifield uses industry-leading technologies including Building Information Modeling (BIM), onscreen estimating, Trimble robotic workstations, Blue Beam technologies, and more.

Streets and pavements are made of various components and Aggregate Industries Management provides the materials that everyone walks, rides and drives on. The company was formed from the mergers of several regional organizations over the years. The Colorado regional office, based in Golden, provides crushed stone products that are used in the construction of highways, railroads, airports, water and sewage systems, office buildings, factories and homes. The company also offers recycled products, such as construction aggregate that is used as a base under new streets and parking lots, ready-mixed concrete for construction projects such as foundations and sidewalks, asphalt for creating durable streets, parking lots, driveways and bike paths; and liquid asphalt for paving and roofing applications.
