Ask Don Hazell what he loves about the company he works for, and he's quick to answer. He's one of five members of Rally Software's management team, and he has a lot in common with each of them.

For starters, says the executive vice president of worldwide sales and field operations, "We're all dedicated to the company. We're loyal for good reason."

In fact, he's worked with the same four managers since the company was founded in 2002.

It's dedication to the company, Hazell says, that leads to its success and its consistent recognition as a Best Company to Work For.

Rally Software assists organizations through the software development process. Rally's Agile ALM platform and its project collaboration tool, AgileZen, support more than 9,700 corporate customers, 126,000 projects and 112,000 users in 101 countries.

Its team of nearly 250 employees enjoys many perks, including great health benefits; unlimited sick days; an open, collaborative work environment; and group events and activities. In addition to a healthy work-life balance, part of the culture of Rally, Hazell adds, is giving back.

The Rally Foundation is consistent with the 1 percent fund," he says. "Employees can give 1 percent of their time to a charitable cause."

That 1 percent adds up. In 2010, Rally employees contributed more than 2,500 hours to almost 100 nonprofit organizations.

"One of our core commitments is to our community," Hazell says. "It's part of what makes us so special."

2010 rank: No. 1
