LT Environmental wanted to grow, but  the owners were unsure what steps to take.

“A company needs to grow, but it needs to grow well,” says Tom Murphy, CEO of the Arvada-based environmental engineering firm.

So they brought in a business coach, focused on their people and began talking about their values – safety, caring for the client and employees, honesty, fairness, respect, compassion, high-quality work, assuming good and protecting the environment.

The company reorganized to be more client-focused, moved its headquarters to increase from 6,000 square feet to 15,500 square feet and started taking bigger risks.

The result?

Seven new offices around Colorado, a staff that went from 40 people to 95 and an average 16 percent increase in revenue every year for the last six – all of which contributed to LTE’s designation as a Top Company and a 2012 Colorado Company to Watch.

LTE, which remediates contamination in structures, air, soil and water, also prides itself on green, cost-effective solutions. Among those: a methane mitigation system that generates electricity while remediating a methane seep in southwest Colorado; and both natural gas-and wind turbine- driven groundwater remediation trailers for working on remote sites.

LTE’s proprietary TerrCert Remediation and Closure Program uses greener injection technologies and state-of-the-art data management systems to support oil and gas clients’ compliance programs.

“Most recently, we’ve developed a computer model to determine the most effective method to process produced and frac water generated from drilling activities,” Murphy says.

The future, for LTE and Colorado, is a bright one, Murphy says.

“I believe that the Colorado economy is rebounding, and the oil and gas industry has been one of the primary pumps,” he says. “I also believe that because we all want to protect the environment for our children, the environmental industry will be strong for the foreseeable future.”
