Sales reality check: Excuses, excuses

I really enjoyed this article too Sam. So true. People are either making money or making excuses for not making money. While some people are busy coming up with reasons why something can't or won't work....others are busy closing sales. Thanks for sharing your expertise. Liz Wendling By liz wendling on 2014 07 21

Didn't realize that Novo is micro-roaster but I love it. They've been around so long and seem like I hear their name everywhere... nice to know they are small - I always prefer supporting the smaller ones. By Buzzybee on 2014 07 17

Marijuana and mold

Really good article, touching on an issue that I bet many haven't thought about. Here's another one: here in GJ a few years ago, owners of a fledgling medical MJ growing enterprise got into serious trouble when they placed some insecticide 'bombs' in the building on a Friday, then left for the weekend. Problem? The adjoining office in the same building housed employees of the U.S. Census department and both shared a common ventilation system. Many got very ill Monday morning when they showed up for work, some requiring hospitalization. I don't know how this was resolved, there may have been law suits aplenty. Making pigs fly

Here's a clue - trying to be succinct: If you set metrics that DO NOT align with where the organizational mission and goals are headed, the people trying to hit their metric marks will necessarily get off track. Metrics are not an end. They are the means to an end. Everything has to be hooked up correctly. Like so many other potential "red herrings" in a trendy toolbox, metrics can lead you astray. Not understanding why and how to measure what you are doing can lead to a consequential result that is just as bad as not doing what you're supposed to be doing... By Diana Royce Smith on 2014 07 14

Thanks, Stephen. Leaders are action oriented, but it often pays to slow the game down and plan before acting so that you are solving for the right problem. Cheers By Todd Ordal on 2014 07 14

The futurist: Countdown to the crash

Worshiping at the Altar of Technology can be as reality distorting as any other myths humans have created. I did not see the depth of automated trading problems until you explained. Unfortunately, most proposed "solutions" are tainted by political, trade, or economic propaganda. By john Tahoe on 2014 07 10
