Congrats to our Top Company 2016 winner: Davis Graham & Stubbs

The law firm topped the "Professional Services" category

Nora Caley //August 26, 2016//

This year’s Top Company winners and finalists represent large and small, old and new, high-tech and high-touch businesses and organizations in 11 industry categories. Like Colorado itself, these enterprises have undergone changes, endured tumultuous economic times, and overcome various hurdles to achieve distinction in their respective fields.

To be eligible for Top Company consideration, companies must be based in Colorado or have a significant presence in the state. Deloitte, a longtime program sponsor, selects up to three finalists per industry category from applications submitted online at cobizmag.com. A panel made up of ColoradoBiz magazine’s editorial board and representatives from the business community then selects the winners based on financial performance or other relevant metric, achievement in one or more operational aspect of their business, and community involvement.

Read on to learn about our 29th annual Top Company Awards winners and finalists in the "Professional Services" category.

Winner

Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP

www.dgslaw.com

Davis Graham & Stubbs is the second-largest law firm in Colorado, with corporate finance, natural resources and energy law practices. With 145 lawyers, DGS offers its clients senior-level expertise in the areas of antitrust, appeals, commercial litigation, corporate finance, creditors’ rights, employee benefits, employment law, environmental law, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, products liability, public lands, real estate and tax. The firm operates out of Denver headquarters and a satellite office in Reno, Nev.

DGS celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015 by launching the Year of 100 Good Deeds. The staff was involved in nominating the charities and organizing volunteer activities, and the firm ended up performing 122 good deeds. Projects included volunteering for and supporting organizations such as Mile High United Way, Colfax Marathon, Boys and Girls Clubs, Colorado Lawyers Committee, and others.

“It brought people together,” says managing partner Chris Richardson. “You feel better when you give back. It meant a lot to a lot of different people.”

One service day took place in a park in Denver. DGA staff cleaned the park, painted all the tables, spread mulch, then played kickball. “It was the most fun picnic,” he says.

Many of the lawyers have been recognized not for their kickball skills but for their legal expertise. Nearly half the partners were listed in Best Lawyers in America and have received the Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent peer review rating. Also, DGS was selected as one of Martindale-Hubbell’s 2016 U.S. Top Ranked Law Firm. “The talent we’ve been able to attract and retain is as good as it’s ever been,” Richardson says.
