Tasked with creating a safe, thriving and vibrant city center, The Downtown Denver Business Improvement District (managed by the Downtown Denver Partnership) has activated a number of alleyways, through a new project, in downtown Denver to help boost the local economy. The project, called Between Us: The Downtown Denver Alleyways Project, was honored on March 10 at the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts (CBCA) Business for the Arts Awards

Between Us is a collaborative effort between local artists, businesses, fabricators, electricians and others to reimagine alleyways as spaces for art. The idea being that public art helps activate public spaces, which in turn helps businesses thrive.

So far, the Business Improvement District (BID) has transformed ten alleyways with these installations. Not only are these installations creating a more appealing and beautiful downtown Denver, but it has allowed the BID to invest in local creatives, generate economic development by attracting companies here and enliven forgotten spaces as opportunities for inspiration.

“We have a number of big visions around creating art in public spaces,” says Tami Door, president and CEO of the Downtown Denver Partnership. “It’s truly about spontaneous interaction with art.”
