Description

The 1840 Rendezvous & Spanish Colonial Art Market commemorates Far Western Mountaineers and the Fur Trade, including trappers, traders, American Indians, Hispanics, teamsters and military of the Bent’s Old Fort era. Hosted at The Fort on Saturday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept. 13, a day at the 1840 Rendezvous & Market is a day in the Old West. Historic interpreters will show guests day-to-day skills from the era, such as horse and mule packing; fire-starting; beadwork; sign language; blacksmithing; moccasin-making; arrow-making; wool processing; and more. Guests will be able to put these newly found skills to the test, under the guidance of bonafide Mountain Men and Frontier Women. Oral history and music were very important to the culture of this era, and will fill the courtyard of The Fort, transporting guests back in time. The event also features a Spanish Colonial Art Market that celebrates Spanish Colonial artists demonstrating and selling retablos, bultos, tinwork, encrusted straw appliqué and more throughout the weekend.

The 1840 Rendezvous & Spanish Colonial Art Market is open to the public; admission is $5 for adults, and free for children 12 and under.
