IMA Financial’s Rob Cohen picked to head national industry group

He's the new chair of The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers

Robert L. Cohen, chairman and chief executive officer of IMA Financial Group Inc., in Denver, is the 2017 chairman of The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers. He succeeds Bill D. Henry, chief executive officer and chairman of MHBT MMA in Dallas. 

Cohen was elected during the council’s 103rd annual Insurance Leadership Forum (ILF) in Colorado Springs. The Insurance Leadership Forum has been instrumental to the commercial property/casualty insurance industry since 1913, and continues to be the premier industry meeting for market leaders worldwide.

Since becoming CEO, Cohen's company has grown by more than $100 million in revenue.

Cohen serves on several boards of for-profit and non-profit organizations, including Atlas Advertising, Colorado I Have A Dream Foundation, Colorado Succeeds, Commerce Bank, Denver Sports Commission, Denver Zoo, Dovetail Solutions, Downtown Denver Partnership, MSU Denver, Southern Hospitality, U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation and Visit Denver.

His many awards include the National Philanthropy Day in Colorado “Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser” award (2002), and the Denver Business Journal’s Partners in Philanthropy “Corporate Citizen of the Year” award (2011).

Cohen received his bachelor’s degree in Risk Management and Finance from the University of Texas at Austin.  He earned his Charter Property Casualty Underwriters designation (CPCU) and is a graduate of Leadership Denver and 50 For Colorado.  He is a 21-time participant in the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation’s City-to-City Leadership Exchange.

As Chairman of The Council, Cohen leads a team of officers including Vice Chairman David L. Eslick, chairman and chief executive officer, Marsh & McLennan Agency, New York; Treasurer Martin P. Hughes, chairman and chief executive officer, Hub International, Chicago, Ill.; and Secretary David O. Becker, president and chief executive officer, Cottingham & Butler, Inc., Dubuque, Iowa.

The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers is the premier association for the top regional, national and international commercial insurance and employee benefits intermediaries worldwide. Council members are market leaders who annually place 85 percent of U.S. commercial property/casualty insurance premiums and administer billions of dollars in employee benefits accounts. With expansive international reach, The Council fosters industry wide relationships around the globe by engaging lawmakers, regulators and stakeholders to promote the interests of its members and the valuable role they play in the mitigation of risk for their clients. Founded in 1913, The Council is based in Washington, D.C.
