R&R Engineers Appoints Todd Smith as Executive Vice President

R&R is a Denver-based land surveying and civil engineering firm

R&R Engineers - Surveyors, Inc. appointed Todd Smith, PhD, P.E., LEED-AP, as executive vice president. R&R is a Denver-based land surveying and civil engineering firm that operates primarily in the Rocky Mountain region.

A Registered Professional Engineer, LEED-AP and 2019 Ph.D (in risk management through leadership), Todd has 30-plus years in multi-state design and construction for heavy civil, utilities, site work, landscape and reclamation. He has led teams of 10 to 1,800, overseen public hearings, public approval processes, private philanthropic ventures and engineering reviews with countless government and non-government groups at all levels. Todd, who previously worked as an R&R employee in the late 1990s, continued to cultivate strong relationships with R&R after his departure, ultimately bringing the company on as a survey and engineering sub-consultant on his projects.

"Todd's operational knowledge, coupled with his ability to connect with people, will allow our vision to reach heights we haven't yet realized," says Tony Smith, president of R&R Engineers. "We're thrilled that Todd has rejoined our collaborative team of employees. He, like everyone on our staff, is committed to bettering our community and fostering sustainable relationships with clients, partners and colleagues that go far beyond the individual project."

Originally from Wisconsin, Smith has deep roots in the civil design and construction industry, having begun his career as a superintendent and foreman. Todd holds a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville; an Honorary Masters degree in sports field construction from The University of Denver; and a Ph.D in risk management from the San Francisco Institute of Architecture.

Todd's professional experience in public and private sectors spans the spectrum: He's worked on projects ranging from $100,000 to $400 million, including more than 200 running tracks and an additional 200 synthetic and natural fields, plus environmental projects, bridges and safety surfaces.

"Working alongside Tony Smith, I'll focus primarily on teaching, formalizing and streamlining engineering procedures," Todd says, adding that his new position also includes "workload deadline achievement and customer communication, while jointly refining many cross-functional internal processes and culture."

In addition to acquiring highly experienced new leadership, R&R will relocate from its West Colfax facilities, where it has operated since 2007, to newly built headquarters at 1635 W. 13th Avenue later this summer. The move provides a modern designed workspace that prioritizes employee needs and functional design for client support.

"It's always been important to us to create an environment where people want to work and are challenged by the work available to them, and now that we've brought Todd on board, we're even better equipped to deliver superior results to our clients," says Tony.

Since 1988, R&R has turned referred clients into repeat customers. Collectively, R&R staff brings more than 150 years of combined knowledge, expertise and advanced qualifications to clients' projects and the surrounding communities.
