Has Olde Town Arvada Retained its Authenticity and Culture?

With growth comes change. How does this community preserve its originality and charm?

Small towns and communities throughout the metro area are in transition, and one mixing the old with the new is Olde Town Arvada. Olde Town Arvada is a shopping, dining and entertainment district established late 1800s, and the community continues to capture the look, feel and sophisticated charm of Main Street Americana. Some of the boutiques and businesses that line the walkable streets have been there for more than half a century, including Rheinlander’s Bakery – a scratch German bakery featuring European pastries and cakes.

With the rapid growth and continued popularity of Denver and Colorado as a whole, challenges exist to protect the character and personality of places like Olde Town. It is, after all, the authenticity of small towns and communities that make them so attractive to people and businesses who want to call them home.

During the past few years, Olde Town Arvada has welcomed the arrival of numerous new businesses, bringing the district to near full occupancy. Bordered by Ralston/Yukon/Grandview/Wadsworth Bypass and comprised of 13 city blocks, Olde Town Arvada has not only succeeded at filling empty space, but has taken tremendous care in opening commercial operations that to reflect the ambiance of the area.

For example, some of the most recent stores to open here include:

·      THE CEREAL BOX – A milk and cereal bar

·      DENVER BEER CO. – The third location for the Denver-based brewery and taproom

·      SMOKIN FINS – A fresh seafood, sushi and house-smoked specialty restaurant

·      SOCK. – An entire store dedicated to socks, featuring hundreds of pairs for all ages

·      VOUNA – A collection of goods from talented makers, all manufactured in the U.S.

·      THE BARRE STANDARD – A community inspired barre-based studio

·      HUNTER BAY COFFEE ROASTERS – A local organic coffee roaster and bar

·      CRISP BARBER SHOP – A classic barber shop tradition in a modern environment

The community asks, nay demands, of each new arrival to fully embrace what has made Olde Town such an experiential place. They recognize the unique character, and fit in with the overall fabric of the community, while introducing new ideas that can be defined as family-friendly in some instances and hip, trendy and original among others. In all cases, the new stores and their proprietors want to contribute to the essence of Olde Town, and improve on the mix that makes it such a desirable local and regional destination.

When strolling the streets of Olde Town, people will notice the distinctive storefronts, captivating streetscape, neighborly patrons, and vibrant public spaces all in a hip-family-friendly location.

Something else people will notice is a new commuter rail station scheduled to open in 2018.  This new stopping point will bring even more visitors directly into the heart of Olde Town, and the people who live and work here are preparing for the fresh faces, and view it as another opportunity to come together and do their best to promote the neighborhood as a special place to be.

Like many communities and towns throughout the metro area, Olde Town Arvada is experiencing inevitable growth. The businesses that have been here for either a few decades, or only a few days, are taking-on a district first mentality and putting their best foot forward, to promote Olde Town as a whole and provide the services that people want, in a setting that people desire.
