Alliance sponsors Legislature’s Green Caucus

The Alliance for Sustainable Colorado is sponsoring the General Assembly’s new Green Caucus, formed to ensure that Colorado takes effective measures to promote the protection of its environment and natural resources.

The caucus, initiated by State Rep. Andy Kerr and State Sen. Suzanne Williams, holds its first meeting at the Capitol today. Thirty-eight inaugural members will participate, including 30 House Democrats and two Republicans, and six Senate Democrats.

“Our decision to sponsor the Green Caucus furthers the Alliance’s mission of advancing sustainability and triple bottom line values across all sectors of society through non-partisan collaboration,” Alliance Executive Director Joanne Keys says. “We are delighted that so many State Representatives and Senators are interested and involved in this caucus whose initiatives will be vital to the future of our state.”

This caucus will serve as a forum for members of the General Assembly who realize both the importance of guarding Colorado’s vast environmental resources and understand the potential benefits that green initiatives could generate for Colorado’s welfare and economy.

This caucus will act to identify green policy priorities regarding the:

• Protection of Colorado’s air, water, and natural environment
• Growth of the green energy economy in Colorado
• Fostering of a green collar labor market
• Reversal and remediation of environmental degradation

The US Green Building Council is also a Green Caucus sponsor.
