If you’ve never been ski joring — or don’t even know what the heck it is — here’s your chance to find out and try it. The Leadville Ski Joring and Crystal Carnival events run all weekend and include horse-drawn skiers racing over jumps on snow-packed streets (that’s ski joring),  a snowman-building contest for kids, broomball games and  sled dog, snowshoe and mountain bike races. Most activities are free.

The Colorado Symphony opens with Smetana’s The Moldau, heads through Sibelius’ Finlandia and finally brings out pianist Andre Watts for a rousing rendition of Grieg’s epic Piano Concerto. Performances at 7:30 p.m. tonight and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets: $12.50-$75

Party With Oscar? Excellent! The Denver Film Society rolls out the red carpet at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver. Festivities include refreshments, a silent auction, a predict-the-winners contest and appearances by local celebs, along with a live feed of the Academy Awards ceremony. Tickets are $100, which includes appetizers and a dessert buffet.
