DAVID STAUSS, 38

PARTNER, BALLARD SPAHR LLP, DENVER

Stauss heads his firm's privacy and cybersecurity practice in Colorado and has become a thought leader in Colorado privacy and cybersecurity law. In 2017, Stauss co-authored the “Colorado Privacy & Cybersecurity Handbook,” the first book to focus exclusively on Colorado’s emerging privacy and cybersecurity laws, regulations and statutes. His insights also helped form the Colorado Division of Securities’ rules requiring financial sector companies to establish and maintain written procedures for cybersecurity. Stauss works to bring together Colorado’s cybersecurity professionals, founding and chairing the 2017 Colorado Cybersecurity Summit, a half-day event dedicated to bringing together cybersecurity thought leaders from various disciplines.

Stauss has completed a nine-week volunteer program with Denver City Attorney's office, which included trying 13 bench and jury trials. In 2017, he also organized and participated in a “head shaving” event, which raised more than $50,000 for cancer research at the University of Colorado's Medical Center.
