Laying the groundwork and building the infrastructure upon which we live work and play are the Top Construction and Engineering Companies of 2018. Day by day, these firms design, plan, erect and manage, roads, tunnels, bridges, buildings, facilities, utilities and other structures that comprise our communities. Innovative and energetic are only a couple of the adjectives associated with our winners and finalists in this hard-working category.

WINNER

HOMESPHERE

LAKEWOOD

This innovative company facilitates digital marketplace connections between homebuilders and product manufacturers in the construction industry.

After 19 years in business, HomeSphere offers a user-centric, fully interactive web portal that is free and used by more than 2,400 builders across the U.S. reporting on more than 300,000 residential projects per year. Manufacturers use the company’s fee-based service to market more than 80 brands of building products from foundations to finishes. Builders earn incentives and rebates while manufacturers analyze builder data to better understand market performance.

“We have integrated a winning combination of our unique data, highly effective programs, experienced people in major construction markets, and the newest technology to better serve the residential homebuilding community,” CEO Glenn Renner says.

The 53 full-time employees include IT and customer service reps as well as 20 regional market specialists working with builders and distributors.

For a decade, HomeSphere partnered with Rebuilding Together Metro Denver to make safe and healthy homes available for low-income residents. Since 2016, HomeSphere’s charitable efforts have focused on the nonprofit Homes For Our Troops, which builds and donates specially adapted custom homes for severely injured post-9/11 veterans. HomeSphere donates employee time for labor at the modified homes, raises funds through campaigns and marketing, and connects the nonprofit with manufacturers that want to donate in-kind supplies.

FINALISTS

DENVER DESIGN BUILD

DENVER

Company co-owners Jeff Ayres and Jeff Gates, who met in 2007 when they were both general contractors, believe the key ingredient to their firm’s “special sauce” is the energetic and enthusiastic culture of their employees.

The 37 employees at the design-build firm include commercial builders, in-house architects and designers, and experienced contractors who enjoy twice-yearly staff outings, group activities and small team competitions.

The company’s mission is to create reasonably priced yet quality construction projects throughout the Denver area with a focus on large scale multi-family and commercial ventures.

Employees donate time to Habitat for Humanity to help build homes, contribute meals and gifts for families in need during the holidays and help maintain a community garden in Denver.

ALL PHASE RESTORATION

WINDSOR

Brothers Bob and Jeff Mauck founded the disaster restoration company in 2003, growing the firm into locations in Windsor, Littleton and Colorado Springs.

The family-run firm “values people over anything else,” and employees are selected based on upstanding moral character. The owners believe “happy people make happy people,” which is important when customers are dealing with issues such as water, fire, smoke or roof damage.

All Phase Restoration was awarded the 2018 Torch Award for Ethics among medium-sized businesses by the Better Business Bureau of Northern Colorado and Wyoming. The 73-employee company helps with turkey and toy drives and donates a portion of proceeds from water mitigation jobs to charity organizations such as food banks, suicide prevention agencies and veterans’ assistance groups.
