Drawing Conclusions: More Women Calling the Shots
Denver ranked 27th for growth in the number of woman-owned firms
Colorado has an estimated 216,700 woman-owned businesses, an increase of 88 percent since 1997, ranking the state 22nd for growth over that 20-year period. Nationally, the number of woman-owned firms increased by 114 percent from 1997 to 2017, compared with a 44 percent increase among all businesses.
Among the top 50 metropolitan areas, Denver ranked 27th for growth in the number of woman-owned firms, with a 72.5 percent increase over the past 15 years.
Nationally, businesses owned by minority women jumped dramatically over the past 20 years, growing 467 percent since 1997. In addition, the 5.4 million businesses owned by minority women represent almost half (46 percent) of all woman-owned firms in the U.S.
