MICHAEL MORRIS, 35
CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER, R9B
Michael Morris’ vision of cybersecurity is helping to redefine its parameters. AS CTO of root9B (R9B), an innovative provider of advanced cybersecurity products and services, Morris was the chief architect of R9B’s Active Adversary Pursuit (HUNT) methodology, which can quickly track down adversaries. Morris and the R9B team launched the concept of HUNT operations back in 2013, years before any other cybersecurity vendor in the world. His technical vision for the commercial application of HUNT techniques is being used to support customers including several Department of Defense entities, Fortune 500 retail, banking, financial investment, major utilities, medical and academic clients.
A 10-year U.S. military veteran, Morris has long been at the forefront of cyber operations as part of the 315th Network Warfare Squadron, the U.S. Air Force’s most prestigious cyber unit. Passionate about the need for greater cybersecurity awareness in the community, Morris has led teams in CyberPatriot and CyberStars, cybersecurity education programs for young people, and has supported the Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security at the University of Texas at San Antonio National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition.
