As a first-generation immigrant from Nigeria, ChukwuFumnanya Egbune is devoting her life to empowering others. She coaches youths about their options for post-secondary education, internships, jobs, financial aid, interviews and resumes. She also volunteers with the Denver Scholarship Foundation, where she works with Africans moving to Colorado to find professional employment. This summer, Egbune spent a month in Brazil teaching local students.
Biggest achievement
“I’m only 24, so I haven’t lived all my life yet, but having the opportunity to work with immigrants and refugees. Coming to Brazil is one of my biggest accomplishments in terms of personal growth because I don’t speak the language and got to taste the medicine.”
Making an impact
“Working with students and empowering them. I’m putting my positive energy out there.”

Best advice
“Cut your coat according to your cloth. It’s a way of saying don’t settle for less but also be grateful for what you have. Be yourself and wear what feels comfortable to you.”
Off-duty
“I’m the oldest girl of 10 siblings. My youngest is 1 year old, so I’m very family oriented. I also love reading.”
