The Creative

Steve Babcock

38 | Partner and  Executive Creative Director
EVB

Steve Babcock’s desire to stop texting while driving led to the Red Thumb Reminder, a global initiative to curb the habit by painting his right thumbnail red. It’s that kind of creativity that has helped him grow the creative agency’s Boulder office from one person (himself) in 2013 to more than 30 employees and win new business like JCPenney, Samsung, Sunglass Hut and Kraft Foods.

Biggest achievement

“Knowing how to put the right people in the right positions and then get out of the way.”

Making an impact

“We always try to make sure we’re doing something for the community. We spearheaded a really large block party in the Boulder area. All proceeds went to the Emergency Family Assistance Association. We made over $10,000 for them in one night.”

Role models

Chuck Porter and Alex Bogusky, partners in Crispin Porter + Bugusky, which brought Babcock to Boulder.

Andrew Keller, CEO of CPB.

Best advice

“Be honest. It’s two words. Honest and aware of yourself, your successes and failures. It’s something we as a culture don’t do very much. Also don’t mistake another’s success as your failure. Advertising is a very competitive field. When another agency is successful, you can’t get upset about it. Celebrate another person’s success.”

Off-duty

“I’m the dad of three kids. Family time is super important to me.”
