DAWES Nothing is Wrong (ATO)
L.A’s Dawes has picked up considerable buzz since the band’s 2009 debut, North Hills, getting tapped by Robbie Robertson and Jackson Browne to serve as a backing band and earning the stripes that make them legitimate folk rock successors to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and worthy contemporaries to more eclectic acts like Wilco.
On the band’s sophomore release (not counting the discs they recorded as Simon Dawes with a different lineup), Taylor Goldsmith and company deliver a set of introspective songs big on melody with strong hooks and tight harmonies.
“Time Spent in Los Angeles,” which the band performed recently on “Late Night With David Letterman,” is one of those songs that make you hit the repeat button several times, a bittersweet tune that could only come from someone who spends a lot of time on the road. On songs like “My Way Back Home,” Goldsmith and his brother, drummer, Griffin, deliver the brand of vocal harmonies only siblings can share.

Dawes opens for Alison Krauss & Union Station at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison at 7:30 p.m. today.
