Gov. John Hickenlooper proclaims "Tech Week" in Colorado

Aug. 1-5 celebrates the state's innovative tech leaders and companies

Gov. John Hickenlooper has proclaimed Aug. 1-5, 2016, as Tech Week to celebrate the innovative leaders and companies transforming Colorado into an internationally renowned tech hub. The entire technology and tech-enabled community — startup and enterprise companies, students and educators of tech, geeks, IT professionals and others — is encouraged to host an event or share their story of how Colorado has helped grow their business, both of which can be submitted for promotion through coloradotechweek.org.

“We know technology underpins much of Colorado's economic progress today, and will increasingly do so in the future,” Hickenlooper said. “Tech Week is a catalyst for showcasing the real impact of technology in our lives, and in helping make Colorado one of the nation’s premier technology-inspired hubs.”

Key indicators show technology contributes substantially to Colorado’s economy, offering high-wage, satisfying careers. According to CompTIA’s 2016 Cyberstates report, a state-by-state analysis of the U.S. technology industry, the technology sector contributes to 11.5 percent of the state’s economy, and ranks third in the U.S. for employment of technology workers at 9 percent of all jobs.

Colorado Technology Association, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the state's tech industry, has championed the formation of Tech Week alongside the Governor's Office in order to celebrate all things tech-enabled statewide. In its inaugural year, the effort is intended to shine a spotlight on company-hosted events, experiences and stories across Colorado’s diverse tech communities.

Companies are invited to host events of all forms: happy hours, demonstrations, pitch contests, tours, Q&As and more that will be promoted through numerous channels and #cotechweek.

Colorado Technology Association will celebrate Tech Week through its 2nd annual Colorado Tech Tour, stopping at five regions over five days with many storytelling, dialogue and demonstration events open to all.

“Our vision to drive Colorado's economy through technology is inclusive,” said Andrea Young, CEO of CTA. “Tech Tour provides the opportunity to gain insights and exposure to exciting innovation and entrepreneurship happening across the state. We look forward to uncovering these gems throughout Colorado Tech Week.”
