Partner Strives to Break Down Barriers and Blaze Trails in the Practice of Law

Maritza Dominguez Braswell’s father arrived in the U.S. knowing little English. He found a job as a janitor, was promoted to welder and later bought his employer’s company with a partner, expanding it tenfold.

“Watching him, she learned not to wait for someone to hand her something but to work hard and actively pursue success,” colleague Scott Kraus says. Since co-founding Rollin Braswell Fisher LLC (RBF Law) in 2015, Braswell has sought to break down barriers and blaze new trails in the practice of law.

She helped create RBF Law’s novel operating structure, built around a dedicated, core group of attorneys, but designed to expand and contract as needed using highly skilled freelance attorneys to serve clients efficiently. In 2018, Braswell helped engineer RBF Law’s merger with Fox Rothschild LLP, a national 800-attorney law firm with more than 70 practice areas and 21 offices nationwide.

When it comes to breaking down barriers, Braswell has helped lead the firm’s efforts to encourage race, gender and LGBT diversity, and hired the first DREAMer in Colorado to be admitted to the bar. She is a forceful advocate for immigrants’ rights, serving on the board of the Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network and lending her time, energy and voice to raise money and engage the community.

Braswell serves on the board of El Sistema, a nonprofit that seeks to transform the lives of children, particularly in the Hispanic community, by providing free musical instruments and after-school enrichment programs. She also chairs the Children’s Task Force for the board of the Colorado Lawyers Committee, and is a member of both the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “As you experience success, you have an obligation to give back,” she says.
