Responding to social-distancing restrictions brought on by COVID-19, the Boulder County Farmers Markets announced plans for a “virtual market,” with online ordering starting April 19 and curbside pickup at Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont beginning April 25. Curbside service at the market’s other locations – in Boulder, Union Station and Lafayette – were pending at press time. Details, including a list farmers’ individual offerings, are available online at bcfm.org.
“Our goal for the season is to continue to be the community’s largest access point to the local food system, and ensure the maximum amount of food is flowing between producers and the community in the safest way possible,” said Brian Coppom, executive director of BCFM.
Statewide, Colorado Proud, a program of the Colorado Department of Agriculture, lists COVID-19 resources, including wholesale distributors offering products to the public, at coloradoproud.org.
Similarly, farmers and agriculture advocates in southwest Colorado created a Southwest Producers Directory to keep direct-market producers connected with consumers during COVID restrictions. The site includes a farmer and rancher sign-up form and is updated once a week.
