Taking Mount Bierstadt again

Mike Cote //August 3, 2011//

Life is full of second chances. This one is for two guys who signed up to climb a mountain last summer – then drove right past it in the dark of the early morning and kept going and going and going ….

ColoradoBiz Managing Editor Mike Taylor and I did indeed eventually scale Mount Bierstadt with employees of Englewood-based telecom company IP5280 as part of the company’s annual Climbing for Kids fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital Colorado and the Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Childhood Abuse and Neglect.

Despite their nearly two-hour head start on us, we caught up with some of the climbers just the same. Embarrassment has a way of pushing you beyond your normal endurance limits.

Mike and I — along with our friend, Amy Korb, vice president at our parent company, WiesnerMedia — are doing it again this year. We might even show up at 6 a.m. and start with the rest of the climbers. But you can count on us to finish the trek.

IP5280 has set its fundraising goal at $100,000 this year. If you’re interested in contributing to the cause or joining our team, check out our team page.
