An 18-year career as an educator showed Timeri Tolnay the pain points of curriculum adoption firsthand. She founded EdCuration in 2018 to solve the problem and launched an online marketplace for educational programs the next year.
COVID-19 proved an unlikely catalyst for EdCuration. “The pandemic catapulted education into the 21st century,” Tolnay says. Technology that supports remote learning is no longer “a nice to have – now it’s a need to have.”
The Centennial State has been a great launchpad, she adds. “The edtech community, the tech community, the investor community in Colorado, the support for entrepreneurs, for female founders has just been phenomenal for me. I couldn’t be more grateful for being here.”
Regardless, Tolnay, 48, says founding a startup is not to be taken lightly. “Starting a company with a big vision takes absolutely everything that you’ve got,” she says. “And there’s nothing more satisfying than feeling you engaged in a venture that challenged you to the utmost.”
