In its 32nd year, ColoradoBiz's Top Company honors the Colorado companies that have drive, determination, a vision and a plan and are ultimately making the state a better place to live and work. These three companies – one winner and two finalists – represent the 2019 Top Companies in Consumer Business.

WINNER

Ibotta

Denver

Ibotta has been around for only seven years, but it is already Denver’s largest consumer tech company with more than 600 employees and 1,300 advertising partners, including Amazon, Walmart and Coca-Cola. And speaking of great numbers: The company has given back more than $600 million in rebates to consumers as it continues its quest to change the way brands and retailers advertise.

Ibotta’s 100% pay-for-performance model “creates a win-win-win, meaning consumers win by earning, brands win because they only pay for advertising after a confirmed sale, and Ibotta wins by powering the ecosystem to make all this happen,” Ibotta Chief Operating Officer Kane McCord says.

None of that would be possible without Ibotta’s world-class employees, McCord says, who are aligned with its cultural values of integrity, boldness, outhustle, teamwork, transparency and “A Good Idea Can Come from Anywhere.”

As a founding member of the Colorado Technology Recruiting Coalition that launched in April 2018, Ibotta, along with a handful of leading technology and economic organizations in Denver, is working to bolster recruitment efforts and bring top tech talent to Colorado from the Bay Area and beyond. The coalition’s first big initiative, “Pivot to Colorado,” is a comprehensive marketing campaign that showcases the benefits of living in Colorado.

With the goal of motivating Silicon Valley tech talent to move to the area, the campaign supports continued innovation happening throughout the state. Over the past two years, Ibotta Gives Day volunteers have clocked nearly 5,000 hours for nonprofits such as Colorado Fourteeners Initiative, Shiloh House, Volunteers of America, Special Olympics, Wish for Wheels and many more.

FINALISTS

Xero Daylite Hikers.

Xero Shoes

Broomfield

Xero Shoes CEO Steven Sashen believes that your feet should feel better at the end of the day than they do at the beginning, and if they don’t, it’s because you’re not walking your miles in his shoes. The shoes, recently picked up by REI, feature wide toe boxes that let your toes spread out, a non-elevated heel, flexibility for natural movement and soles backed with a 5,000-mile warranty. Xero walks the walk when it comes to culture with a profit-sharing bonus plan and financial transparency at quarterly team meetings. The company sends footwear to communities around the world where not having a pair of shoes keeps people from attending school or getting a job. Xero also supports the community that inspired its initial product, the Tarahumara Indians in Mexico, by contributing a percentage of that product’s sale price to the Tarahumara Childrens Hospital Fund.
