In its 32nd year, ColoradoBiz's Top Company honors the Colorado companies that have drive, determination, a vision and a plan and are ultimately making the state a better place to live and work. These three companies – one winner and two finalists – represent the 2019 Top Companies in Energy.

WINNER

Enscicon Corp.

Denver

The name Enscicon is an acronym for engineering, science and consulting, and this company understands the complex nature of those industries and their staffing needs.

“Our recruiters personally visit heavy industrial facilities to gain firsthand knowledge of the equipment, components and technologies our clients are utilizing,” CEO Ryan McCabe says. “This exposure allows us to have more educated conversations when conducting a technical search on behalf of our clients.”

One of Enscicon’s corporate values is finding a way to say yes, McCabe says. “Before we say we don’t or we can’t, we say, ‘Let me find out what we can do.’ And then we find a few ways to meet our client’s needs,” he says.

Employee retention makes Enscicon a standout in its industry, with an average tenure of nearly six years, McCabe says. “We’re all in this together and striving to build a phenomenal company,” he says. “The millennial stereotypes don’t apply here. Hard work is rewarded and work-life balance is encouraged. Our employees enjoy an every third-Friday-off schedule and get a paid sabbatical every five years.”

On the philanthropic front, Enscicon supports Escuela de Guadalupe, a community-based, financially accessible school of excellence that develops compassionate dual-language leaders for the world of tomorrow.

FINALISTS

ION Solar

Provo, Utah

ION Solar is a full-service solar provider offering affordable solar solutions that give customers the benefits of solar with little or no up-front costs. The company’s service includes a custom-designed system using premium equipment as well as permitting, applications, installation and  inspection. ION employees consider themselves part of a larger purpose, helping communities and the environment. The company’s ION Earth program works with partners such as Habitat for Humanity to provide solar solutions to homes, businesses, schools and shelters in need, reducing high utility costs and helping the planet. Through the program, every two megawatts of solar installed by ION Solar supports solar on another home.  All permitting, utility applications, custom design and premium equipment is handled by ION’s in-house team free of charge, and ION Solar employees donate their time to install the system.

The company is a member of the Colorado Solar Energy Industries Association, as well as local chambers of commerce and business networks. Saving money for customers on energy means they can spend those dollars in other ways in the community, the company says.
