PHILLIP HUTCHERSON, 39

OWNER, SAGE AFFORDABLE TUTORING, COLORADO SPRINGS

Full-time math teacher Hutcherson has helped Colorado students earn more than $12 million in scholarships with a program that maximizes results at a minimal cost. As the first in his family to graduate from college and only the second to graduate from high school, Hutcherson understands the challenges that students face when it comes to breaking the cycle of poverty. He works with local counselors at schools with high populations of at-risk youth to identify students who would benefit from his tutoring, which he offers either free or at greatly reduced cost.

“He has a heart of gold and produces amazing results,” says his wife, Frances Delgado. “His theory is that if he trains teachers and tutors and his hundreds of students each year well, then they will make a bigger impact in our community, which leads to him impacting our state and ultimately our world exponentially. His positive attitude and leadership are contagious.”
