Zach Warkentin named Volunteer Attorney of the Year
Warkentin won the award at the recent CBCA Business for the Arts Awards
Artists and creatives operate like any other businesses, however, typical resources for business owners aren’t always applicable to the creative industries. Which is why Zack Warkentin, owner of Warkentin, LLC, has dedicated himself to helping provide legal expertise and education to this population. For his work, Warkentin was awarded the Volunteer Attorney of the Year award at the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts (CBCA) Business for the Arts Awards on March 10.
This award recognizes an outstanding attorney who has provided pro bono legal services to Colorado creatives and advanced CBCA’s Colorado Attorneys for the Arts (CAFTA) program. Warkentin was honored for his work in CAFTA as well as through his own boutique law firm, which advises small- to mid-sized companies in the creative industries on all corporate matters. Not only does Warkentin provide pro bono legal services to creative professionals, but he provides legal education and resources to artists across the state.
His passion for the creative industries stems from Warkentin’s own participation in the arts, having served in five bands over the years. “Art is not only a reflection of society, but it helps create a social fabric,” he says.
Through his own experiences and passion, Warkentin started down this path to ensure artists had the resources required to find success in their industry. “Every artist’s dream is to be an artist for life and make a living out of it. If I can help facilitate that by taking one of those worries away from the legal perspective, that’s amazing,” he says.
CAFTA is a program of CBCA that connects limited-income artists and creative entities to volunteer attorneys who are willing to provide pro bono legal services. Participants in this program represent a wide range of practice areas and legal expertise.
