Breckenridge Grub Guide: Where to eat after all that team-building

Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, dinner, or, as is the trend now, snacks, there is always something to eat in Breckenridge. If you are attending a meeting or event at Beaver Run Resort & Conference Center, the full-service resort offers several dining establishments. There are also plenty of choices within walking distance or a free shuttle ride away.

SPENCER'S

The recently renovated Spencer’s Steaks and Spirits is located at the base of the Beaver Run SuperChair on Peak 9. There are two breakfast buffets, a lunch buffet with house-made soups, salads and sandwiches, and a la carte menus for both. Spencer’s dinner offers everything from Colorado game to vegetarian options. Try the eclectic, new dinner menu centered on local ingredients and sustainably raised meats, sure to tantalize your taste buds. Best of all, you can enjoy it all with a 30 percent discount if you’re 30 or older or half off if you’re 50 or older as part of their new 50 for 50/30 for 30 program.

BASE 9 BAR

The menu at Base 9 Bar includes appetizers, soups and burgers, and also ice cold beer from Colorado craft breweries. There are tasting flights that pair craft beers with specific food items. The menu ranges from longtime favorites such as the iceberg wedge salad, patty melt and chicken finger basket to smoked pheasant soup and truffle-parmesan fries. Try to schedule the next day’s meetings for late in the morning, because Base 9 Bar has darts, billiard tables and a reverse happy hour from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

BLUE RIVER BISTRO

The food at Blue River Bistro is modern Italian and American, and the place is open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. Dinner specials range from pan-seared trout to prosciutto wrapped salmon, and from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. there is live music from local musicians.

HEARTHSTONE

Hearthstone shapes its menu around locally farmed, seasonal products including meats, fish, artisan cheeses and fresh produce. The restaurant is in a Victorian-era house a block away from Main Street. There is happy hour upstairs and outside seating during the summer. A sister restaurant, Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant & Cantina offers colorful fare and hand-shaken margaritas.

MI CASA MEXICAN RESTAURANT & CANTINA

This Mexican kitchen in the center of town serves up specialty tacos and margaritas, with outdoor seating perfectly built for an inviting après-ski scene.

DOWNSTAIRS AT ERIC'S

The family sports bar, owned by the current mayor of Breckenridge – Eric Mamula – has been a favorite for locals and semi-locals since 1989. The place is known for its pizza, but there are also wings, salads, burgers and many types of beer. The menu even has gluten-free items, including pizza. There is always a wait, but there are arcade games to pass the time.

GIAMPIETRO PIZZERIA

The recently renovated Giampietro Pizzeria is now one storefront larger than the earlier version. The place also offers takeout, including, with 24 hours’ notice, family-style to-go. In addition to pizza, there is also a full menu of appetizers, sandwiches, pastas and baked entrees.

OLLIE'S PUB AND GRUB

Ollie’s has food for everyone in the family, and 16 HD TVs for the sports enthusiasts. The menu is classic American bar fare, prepared fresh and in large portions, and there are also craft beers.

SAUCE ON THE MAGGIE

Formerly called Taddeo’s, Sauce on the Maggie overlooks Maggie Pond. The place offers traditional Italian favorites such as minestrone, Caesar salad, spaghetti marinara and other items such as rainbow trout and Colorado lamb. Menu items are available in single serving and in family size portions.

CLINT'S BAKERY + COFFEE HOUSE

Clint’s Bakery + Coffee House is open for breakfast and lunch, but the first thing everyone sees when they enter from Main Street are the baked goods. The bagels, muffins, bars, cookies, cupcakes and brownies are ideal for breakfast, snacks, or dessert. There are also sandwiches and wraps and self-serve coffee. If this isn’t enough for a sweet tooth, there is ice cream, too.
