“Luz de Denver” Installed in Riverfront Park

Artist Jorge Marín’s permanent sculpture encourages engagement with art

The Riverfront Park Community Foundation has installed “Luz de Denver,” (Light of Denver) a permanent version of artist Jorge Marín’s “Wings of México” in Denver’s Commons Park.

Between spring  2016 and  fall  2017, the foundation, Outdoor Downtown and Denver Parks and Recreation sponsored “Wings of the City,” a temporary outdoor installation of nine of Marín’s large-scale sculptures throughout the park.

“Because of the temporary sculpture’s unique ability to engage and enliven the community, the Foundation board decided to commission ‘Luz de Denver,’ a permanent celebration of the vitality of our neighborhood and our city,” says Amy Cara, Riverfront Park Community Foundation board member and East West Partners managing partner.

Part of Marín’s “Eight Cities, Eight Cultures” project, the original installation depicted winged figures, one of which was “Wings of México.” Thousands of community members, passersby and visitors enjoyed an opportunity to engage with “Wings of México” through photographs, social media and a photo contest with Denver Parks and Recreation.

“Jorge Marín’s ‘Wings of México’ quickly became a very popular destination in Commons Park,” Cara says.

Jorge Marín is a Mexico-based sculptor with more than 25 years of experience working with bronze and metal casting, in dimensions ranging from miniature to monumental sculpture. His interactive pieces have encouraged millions to engage with art and incorporate it into everyday life. Marín has been included in more than 260 individual and group exhibitions on four continents.
