Robin McIntosh started Workit in 2015 with Lisa McLaughlin, who she met six years earlier at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. “Both of us are in long-term recovery from alcoholism and addiction,” McIntosh says.
McLaughlin and McIntosh set out to create an online platform that would bring users in recovery for addiction and substance abuse “the best treatment in the world,” McIntosh says. “Our goal and our mission is to democratize access to treatment – period.”
After Workit closed on a $12 million Series B round in 2020, McIntosh’s goal for 2021 is to get 10,000 active patients on the platform. The company now has 120 employees in six states, as it went remote in 2020. “My base is here [in Colorado],” says McIntosh, 36, who relocated from the Bay Area in 2020. “Everybody is so welcoming,” she says. “It’s so different from the Bay – it’s so insular, you get a lot of closed doors. Here, it feels really open.”
