Summit Technical Solutions' Founder, Kelly Terrien Described as a Visionary
CEO of the Year finalist, Kelly Terrian maintains goal of being the federal government’s best value for a technical and services support company
Kelly Terrien likes to say that no challenge is insurmountable, and her journey from subcontractor to a company with 300 employees and nearly $30 million in revenue validates that belief. Before founding Colorado Springs-based Summit Technical Solutions in 2001, Terrien spent 10 years in the Air Force and Army Reserves, earning an associate’s degree in Electronics Systems Technology and supplementing that after her service with a bachelor’s in Management Information Systems and an MBA.
Colleagues describe her as a visionary who sets clear goals and strong objectives backed by detailed plans for timely accomplishment, all with the goal of being the federal government’s best value for a technical and services support company. As a veteran and small business champion, Terrien believes in hiring veterans, mentoring other business people and encouraging youth.
“Kelly is passionate about hiring intelligent undergraduates as interns whose talent is often underappreciated and enabling them to succeed,” says STS Social Media Manager Miriam Neel. “As proof of her efforts, every intern at STS has been hired on full-time, and have flourished in their respective roles.”
Terrien personally gives back with community service and monetary donations; through STS’s Good Citizen Program, Terrien encourages employees to volunteer with paid time-off compensation. Last year, STS renewed its relationship with the Women’s Resource Agency (WRA), supporting their goal of empowering women to attain economic independence. Groups supported by STS include the Red Cross, Pikes Peak Community College food pantry,Teens with Promise Holiday Wishes Program, among others.
