Top Company 2023: Startups

Now in its 36th year, ColoradoBiz magazine’s Top Company Awards program recognizes businesses and organizations based in Colorado or with a significant presence in the state that are leading the way in their fields, as demonstrated by financial performance, notable company achievements and community engagement.

To be considered, Top Company entrants submitted applications throughout the year online at ColoradoBiz.com. From those entries, which numbered in the hundreds, the magazine’s editorial board narrowed the field to three finalists (in most cases) in each industry category. A judging panel made up of area business leaders and ColoradoBiz staff then met to compare notes on the finalists and decide winners in 14 industries plus the Startup category, for companies in business four years or less.

Congratulations are in order not only to the 41 winners and finalists profiled on the following pages, but to all the companies that took the time to tell us about their achievements and obstacles surmounted over the past year that make them worthy of Top Company consideration.

In 2022, the Colorado-based Titan 100 program expanded to four additional markets after being picked up by a large national sponsor that believes in the mission, vision and value of the Titan 100 program. In the first year of major expansion, the organization recognized 500 Titans across the country — in Colorado, St. Louis, Georgia, Philadelphia and Phoenix. Collectively, the 2022 Titan 500 and their companies employ more than 472,000 and generate $149.7 billion in annual revenues. Titan CEO produced more than 32 corporate events for the Titans across the country.

In 2023, the Titan 100 program continued expansion efforts, adding two additional markets: Wisconsin and Chicago. This year, the program will recognize 700 Titans of Industry and produce more than 36 corporate events.

Titan CEO closed on an SBA loan at the end of 2021 to build an executive retreat facility in the mountains. The project broke ground in spring 2023 and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. This facility will serve the many clients, executive leadership teams and community by bringing executives together for off-site leadership retreats.

FINALISTS

Pretred Inc.

Aurora, CO

Website: www.pretred.com

Tire waste has become a worldwide environmental challenge, with more than 1 billion tires sent to the landfill or burned every year. At the same time, concrete is a resource-intensive material with a massive carbon footprint.

Pretred addresses both issues, recycling and repurposing waste tires into sustainable industrial barriers and blocks that serve as a sustainable alternative to concrete barriers made from recycled tires. The product has applications in a myriad of industries and uses: construction sites, parking lots, playgrounds, roadways and highways; controlling erosion, perimeter and flood control, beach and rock fall protection and landscape design, to name a few.

In May 2021, less than a year after launching, Pretred garnered $3 million in seed investment. In January 2022, Pretred was awarded the “Market Development Grant for Tire Derived Products” by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE), which is designed to support the development and expansion of sustainable waste tire markets in Colorado and regionally, assisting in the reduction of the storage and illegal dumping of waste tires.

The CDPHE awarded Pretred $93,470 with a 20 percent match from Pretred ($18,694). With the funding, Pretred was able to come to market with a first-of-its-kind solution – making full-size industrial barriers made from 95 percent diverted scrap tires – marketing them to target markets and getting pilot units into the working market to identify feedback and demand for additional production.

Rebalance Health

Boulder, CO

Website: rebalancehealth.com

Rebalance is a health and wellness company that focuses on natural and organic formulas to treat individuals suffering from menopause, low testosterone and anxiety. The company’s lozenges and Directline delivery technology to the body are designed for maximum absorption.

Rebalance originally was branded to manage levels of cortisol, a “stress hormone” sometimes referred to as the “flight or fight” hormone or the body’s “built-in alarm system.” Cortisol can also affect the balance of other hormones, such as testosterone, human growth hormone, estrogen and melatonin.

The company found this was difficult for the consumer to understand, as cortisol is not something the average consumer knows much about, nor is it easy to quickly explain. So the company went back to the drawing board and relaunched with a focus on low testosterone, anxiety and hot flashes.

“Rebalance works with your body to help it maximize hormone balance and reduce the impacts of stress,” the company says. “We aren’t trying to replace what’s missing. We are helping activate what wants to be working for you.”

Bring on the Colorado Titans

One of the great blessings here at ColoradoBiz is hearing about all the incredible companies, start-ups, non-profits, family-owned businesses, CEOs, and entrepreneurs that positively impact the Centennial state.

The downside can be choosing which ones to spotlight.

Yet, occasionally one rises to the top and is such a compelling organization that we have to hit pause and spotlight someone or something special.

Today, that is Arvada-based Titan CEO.

Titan CEO brings CEOs together through private events and roundtables.  They provide private, virtual and in-person, instructor-led groups for Titan CEO members.  The focus is to meet a CEOs unique needs as a business leader by facilitating a curriculum that helps to build business valuation and tackle everyday business challenges. They offer a suite of resources including private coaching, high-level networking and executive-level retreats.

I had the distinct pleasure of witnessing firsthand the power of this group and a glimpse of the “voodoo that they do” at a recent event they co-hosted along with Alliance, a rapidly growing independent insurance agency also based in Arvada.

Titan CEO is also the creator of the nationwide Titan 100 program which recognizes 100 CEO’s and C-Level executives: 100 Titans of Industry. This program is designed to build and connect a community of CEOs & C-level executives and serve as inspiration to the local business community.

Collectively, the 2022 Colorado Titan 100 and their companies employ more than 34,000 individuals and generate over $22 billion dollars in annual revenues.

The great news for Colorado businesses is that they have openings.

Top Company 2022: Startups

The outpouring of applications for this year’s Top Company awards is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of enterprises that do business in the state. Applications for the 35th annual awards numbered in the hundreds, and it was particularly encouraging to see so many companies rebounding from two years of COVID restrictions, with most posting revenue and employee gains approaching—and in some cases, exceeding—pre-pandemic numbers.

This year’s Top Company winners and finalists represent 13 industry categories, plus a startup category for companies in business less than four years. Entrants were judged on three criteria: outstanding achievement, financial performance and community involvement. The judging panel was made up of ColoradoBiz magazine’s editorial board and two representatives from the business community.

Winner — Fulfilld Intelligent Warehouse Software

Denver

Fulfilld is an intelligent warehouse management orchestration platform that directs tasking between warehouse workers and connected systems (robotics, vehicles, etc.) and is delivered via a monthly bundled software and hardware subscription. Fulfilld’s disruptive objective is to optimize core-warehousing operations by driving cost savings, greater efficiencies, labor optimization, higher throughput, and act as a company’s warehousing orchestration engine.

The company’s founders are no strangers to the startup space. Before Fulfilld, they self-funded and grew tech firm NIMBL to more than 300 people, at which point it was acquired by a publicly traded competitor. Raising VC funds for Fulfilld during the pandemic was no small challenge, but the company raised $4 million from global VC investors.

“One could argue the worst time to start a business is during an economic downturn,” says co-founder and CEO Yosh Eisbart. “Fulfilld believes the opposite. While many businesses were pivoting to navigate their respective challenges, Fulfilld seized this once in a lifetime — hopefully — event to not only tackle head-on a challenge…but double-down on the opportunity due to perceived supply-chain, logistics and warehousing disruptions coming in the future. Obviously, Fulfilld could not have imagined the level of supply chain disruption that was to be and seized the opportunity.”

According to the company, Fulfilld clients experience an average 25% increase in maintenance cost savings, a 20% increase in productivity, and a 50% increase of savings in total cost of ownership.

Though it was founded less than two years ago, Fulfilld is already making its mark as an ally in the community. Partnering with the Colorado Refugee and Immigration Security Service (CRISS), Fulfilld aims to recruit, re-train and hire about 200 refugees and immigrants per year and provide livable jobs for refugees and immigrants not earning sustainable wages. Fulfilld has worked with CRISS since the founders’ NIMBL days and has procured resources including 13 computers for refugee computer literacy training classes.

Finalist — Titan CEO

Arvada

Titan CEO focuses on three major offerings: CEO peer groups, The Titan 100 and Executive Retreats. The company fosters a much-needed community for executives through a suite of resources including private CEO peer groups, high-level networking and executive retreats that focus on the unique needs of the executive leader.

Titan CEO is also the creator of the Titan 100 program, which recognizes 100 CEOs and C-level executives: 100 Titans of Industry. This program is designed to build and connect a community of CEOs and C-level executives and serve as inspiration to the local business community. Currently, the Titan 100 program exists in five cities across the country and will recognize 500 Titans of Industry in 2022. The program will recognize 1,000 Titans of Industry annually by 2024.

Reaching the top of one’s industry is no easy feat, and Titan CEO makes sure that if a business leader’s impact is great, he or she is recognized for it.

However, it is the company’s ability to facilitate high-level networking events, catered business tutoring, and an elite level of community that truly makes each Titan CEO a titan in his or her own right.

Using this network of executives to foster community engagement and outreach is the company’s true goal. For this year’s Titan Days, the company’s annual community outreach event, Titan CEO will partner with the Infinity Foundation of Colorado, a nonprofit focused on creating opportunities for families and individuals impacted by intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities.

The company also plans to partner with a local nonprofit in each of the five major cities that Titan CEO operates in, for an estimated 600 hours of cumulative volunteer service throughout the Titan 100 community.

Finalist — Guide Real Estate

Denver

Originally founded by Bret Weinstein as BSW Real Estate in 2019, the company rebranded to Guide Real Estate in 2022. The agency was created to reshape the landscape of real estate through value and transparency, with a focus on continuing education for clients and agents alike.

The 70-agent company announced earlier this year a partnership with the brokerage platform Side, ensuring Guide remains on the cutting edge of the evolving real estate market while continuing to deliver premium services to clients with a platform that includes proprietary technology, transaction management, branding and marketing services, public relations, legal support, lead generation, vendor management, infrastructure solutions and more.

Since 2019, Guide agents have donated many hours and more than $100,000 to local charities, putting into practice their belief that real estate is about uplifting everyone. Guide agents have hosted a supply drive, are currently putting together a food drive, and have assisted victims of the Marshall Fire to find rentals.

Agents at Guide Real Estate have a good role model to follow: Weinstein, the CEO, has ranked among the top 1% of Colorado agents each of the last 10 years.
